Unlocking Efficiency: An Expert's Insights on Industrial Steam System Energy Assessments

This presentation explores the role of industrial steam system energy assessments in identifying inefficiencies and optimizing performance. It highlights key processes, common findings, and actionable opportunities for energy savings and reliability improvements. Perfect for anyone looking to enhance their understanding of steam system optimization.

Dr. Greg Harrell is a globally recognized authority on industrial energy systems, with a career dedicated to driving sustainable improvement in energy efficiency. Beginning as a Utilities Process Engineer at a major cogeneration facility, he has since built an illustrious career centered on evaluating and optimizing industrial energy systems.

With a doctorate in applied thermodynamics and over 18 years of hands-on experience, Dr. Harrell has conducted energy assessments and training programs in 26 countries across six continents, as well as in 38 U.S. states. His expertise spans steam systems, combined heat and power (cogeneration), compressed air systems, and process heating systems.

As a Lead Technical Advisor for the United States Department of Energy Industrial Program, Dr. Harrell has played a pivotal role in developing influential resources, including the USDOE BestPractices Steam Tools, the Steam System Survey Guide, and training programs like the USDOE Steam Specialist Qualification Training.

Dr. Harrell is also a distinguished educator, serving as Milligan University’s Director of Engineering Programs and a Professor of Mechanical Engineering. He also was the primary instructor for the North Carolina State University Energy Management Diploma Program and the University of North Carolina Charlotte Continuing Education Program.
