
Energy Engineer

Steam Management, Inc. (SMI) is a premier energy and water conservation contractor providing custom design/build solutions to commercial, institutional, municipal, and industrial facilities nationwide. Our projects include in-house survey, design, engineering, project management, commissioning, and on-going service of complex multi-discipline turnkey projects.
ENERGY ENGINEER JOB DESCRIPTION
The Energy Engineer will work with the engineering, sales, and operations teams to identify, develop, design, and execute energy efficiency improvement projects for our customers. Energy Engineers create scopes of work for projects that can be quantified, priced, and presented to various customers across the United States. Energy Engineers also develop engineering design packages as deliverables to support projects. Travel is required as needed to survey facilities for conservation opportunities. Data collection methods are employed onsite and compiled for proposal generation. A home office is required for backend proposal and design work. The Energy Engineer is also responsible for modeling budgeted costs and savings impacts. The role at times also requires accessing spaces that will require some physical fitness. The Energy Engineer will report to SMI’s Director of Engineering.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Maintain safety practices in compliance with SMI procedures in all aspects of job performance
Adhere to SMI safety rules, ensure compliance, and lead weekly safety meetings
Uphold Steam Management’s Standards of Quality and Excellence
Deliver completed projects in accordance with contractual obligations and scope of work
Prepare and manage project budgets
Prepare and maintain project schedule including participation in development and regular updates with team members and project stakeholders
Conduct weekly project team meeting meetings with owner, design team members, jurisdictional authorities, and construction team members
Responsible for project adherence to contracted scope of work as well as participating in preconstruction process as necessary
Responsible for client management throughout procurement, construction, and post-construction processes
Assists in development and implementation of quality assurance plans during the design and construction phases and seeks to align client expectations into this process
Develop and manage departmental reporting guidelines to include daily installation documentation, daily written project updates, daily and weekly email communications within and outside of the organization, daily and weekly safety briefings and meetings
Development of JHA, work plans and MS Project master schedules
Review, confirm, and approve weekly billings to SMI
Assist in design and development of new projects and pre-bid meetings and site walkthroughs
Maintain open lines of communication with customer, subcontractor, and SMI management
Promote project culture that are consistent with SMI values
Adhere to/comply with the company's EEO policies and affirmative action obligations
Compliance with all SMI procedures
Travel nationwide as needed, for extended duration projects with weekend travel home
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
M.E. or related degree with a minimum of two years' experience in fluid system design or related equivalent work experience.
Proficiency in MS Office suite - Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams, Project
AutoCAD Plant 3D experience, or willingness to learn.
Technical writing
Ability to work independently and remotely on projects, as well as collaborate in a virtual team environment.
Good interpersonal skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work effectively with all project stakeholders
Ability to travel as needed (up to 50%)
Preferred Qualifications
Boilers/steam system design experience
AutoCAD Plant 3D experience (3D modeling, utilizing point cloud scans, P&IDs, Isometrics, etc.)
Knowledge of Industry Codes and Standards (ASME, NFPA, etc)
EIT certification
EMIT certification
CAPM certification
